Description and Message:
Hi, I know this is a German support site, but my Deutsch ist eingerostet. So Please forgive me that I write in English.
If you want I can try to translate it to German as well. You can ask back in German that's not a problem I will understand it.

So the problem is the following, I just got a DSL contract with Alice, got everything, and It's working fine If I connect directly from my computer with PPOE. However I would like to use my DGL-4300 again, as I was using before with T-com, in a different City in Germany. But the problem is that the router can not connect to the provider.

I have a Siemens c2-010-i modem what is connected to the D-Link router.
And in the logs of the router I only see this error message:

[CRIT] Thu Nov 26 20:05:05 2008 PPPoE timed out waiting for connection. Connection attempt failed.
[INFO] Thu Nov 26 20:04:53 2008 Trying to establish a PPPoE connection

Username and password is correct, and that is not the error message. Cabling is good. It's not the first time that I set this up...

I have tried to dump the events from the router to syslog, so that I can see more - maybe a more detailed error, unfortunately it doesn't give out more detail.
I have checked the Siemens modem, that device is in Bridge Mode, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Why is it working when I connect from the PC directly and why not with the router.
I tried to use a older modem from T-com, with that I could connect to the net from my PC, but not from the router.

And now I slowly run out of ideas.. :roll:

Any idea who to capture the traffic between the router and the modem?

@hamster

Maybe the modem ist already working as a gateway. The modem must set into the PPPoE Bridge Mode (PPPoE Pass Through) if a router behind should work as the internet gateway.

That was what I checked first when I looked through the forums. I found the ip, and login details to the modem, and it's in bridge mode.

@Gairigo

I use the standard XP PPPoE connection, what you can create manually with the XP connection wizard.

Do you know any way to get out more detail from the router, what is his problem with the connection?

@hamster

1) This is the theme than the "Alice PPPoE Connenction Software" - it´s also a PPPoE Software and not a Hardware Connection what a Router is doing. When you will use the Router acting as a Gateway than you cannot use a PPPoE Software Connection.

2) From the DGL-4300 Log. Check your Alice settings in the DGL-4300 WAN site.

@Gairigo
1, I know that... The problem is that I can connect with the "software connection" so the internet itself is working, but the router is not connecting to the service provider.

2, Is triple checked. And the log says nothing. I'm interested in detailed logs, in what phase, what is happening.

I think the DGL-4300 and the Alice DSL are not compatible. :(
However I made a workaround. I configured the Siemens modem to work as a router, that device is connecting now to the internet.
And I use the dlink router as a secondary "firewall", to provide wifi and internet sharing for multiple computers.

Thanks anyway the help. :)

@hamster

Sorry, but then you think wrong! :wink:

There must be another reason why you have your problem.

You should read the postings in the Hansenet board:

Zitat: Ich hab seit kurzem jetzt auch einen Alice Anschluß und betreibe das Sphairon Turbolink IAD erfolgreich an einem D-Link DGL-4300 Router.

@Gairigo
Hab schon gelesen. Unfortunately I didn't find anything why it's not working.

What I saw in the modem, that the
ATM Interface: PVC-0, 1, 2 - was set to bridge mode.
But the PVC-4 was set to some static private IP. But I have no info how is that working in the background. Why is that set up in this way.
I have expert knowleadge about the tcp level, but I'm a dump guy, when it's about the telephone /atm/ level.
